Yesterday, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves met with Japan’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Takeaki Matsumoto. The two leaders presided over the signing of a new Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) on open, resilient telecommunications networks, and reaffirmed the importance of U.S.-Japanese partnership on this shared priority. The meeting also addressed Japan’s 2023 G7 presidency, continued support for the development and adoption of Open Radio Access Networks (Open RAN), next steps for efforts in the Quad and the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity, and expanded collaboration between NTIA and MIC.
