Today at the U.S.-Africa Business Forum, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves met with Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Chipoka Mulenga of Zambia. The two leaders discussed business environment reforms taking place in Zambia, and opportunities for U.S. small and medium-sized enterprises and diaspora-led firms to promote solutions in sustainable energy for agroprocessing, manufacturing, mining, and other sectors. Earlier this year, at the invitation of President Hichilema, Commerce led a delegation of 8 U.S. multinational firms to visit Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. In February, Commerce will continue its high-level engagement with a visit by Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago. The leaders discussed commercial engagement goals including Zambian government-sponsored contract opportunities for which U.S. companies are well positioned to compete.
