Don Graves

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the second full day of the 2023 SelectUSA Investment Summit!

It is wonderful to be here once again at National Harbor, making lasting connections with fellow attendees and creating exciting opportunities to bolster foreign direct investment right here in the United States.

It was such a pleasure to meet so many of you yesterday and hear firsthand your stories of success and plans for the future.

With over 4,200 attendees – including over 2000 investors from over 82 foreign markets, representatives from 53 U.S. state and territories, dozens of state and federal officials, and 230 slated speakers – this gathering serves as an inspiring reminder that the United States is the top choice for starting and expanding business operations, and why we here at SelectUSA and the Department of Commerce are committed to ensuring that those who want to do business here, can.

This morning, our Investment Summit programming continues with panel discussions with U.S. governors and industry leaders on the importance of fortifying our global supply chains. Today’s later sessions will also discuss advanced manufacturing and the importance of creating American jobs in that increasingly vital sector.

The Biden-Harris Administration has been committed to innovating America’s economy and revitalizing American manufacturing – and implementing a whole-of-government approach, working with private industry and the investment community to adapt our country’s critical supply chains for computing technologies like chips and clean energy technologies to meet new challenges is crucial to those missions.

The progress made by the Administration to rebuild American supply chains following the pandemic contributed to the fastest job growth in history, the fastest economic growth in nearly 40 years, and a faster recovery than every other country in the G7.

We will also hear from industry innovators whose stories and strategies highlight the full potential of economic investment in the U.S., host the final round of the SelectUSA World Pitching Sessions, meet our Select Global Women in Tech mentors and mentees, and connect with other participants whose influence stretches across a variety of integral sectors and markets.

I’d like to thank all our speakers, panelists, moderators, and pitching session judges for making this summit possible through their extensive knowledge, experience, and dedication to investment in the United States.

And a special thanks to our SelectUSA team for the continued success of this year’s Investment Summit. I am excited for all that Day Two has to offer, and I hope you are too!
